I ran the Tolkien panel with
zana16 at Con.txt this past weekend and had a great time! I'm even more excited to brush up on the Lord of the Rings and (finally) read the Silmarillion, now. At the end of the panel we asked for recs from participants and this is the list we came up with.

Wealhtheow21Fandom: The Hobbit - All Media TypesRating: Teen And Up Audiences

Summary: AU of movieverse. It is many years since tragedy struck the line of Durin when the youngest heir was lost to a pack of orcs. Now Bilbo Baggins, having agreed only to stealing treasure from a dragon, finds himself instead tangled up in a web of tragedy and revenge. Perhaps it's foolhardy of him to get involved at all, but really, someone has to try and keep these dwarves out of trouble. As for the rest, well, what is lost does not always stay lost forever.

The Hobbit - J. R. R. TolkienRating: Explicit
Warnings: Major Character Death, Rape/Non-Con
Relationships: Dwalin/Nori, Nori/shiny things
Summary: Nori is an excellent thief with a complicated family, Dwalin is an excellent guardsman with complicated feelings about a certain thief, a lot of UST and some smut happens, and then they both join a suicide quest to reclaim a mountain from a dragon and things get even more complicated and smutty.
Someday, they might actually be forced to come to terms with the fact that they don't hate each other.
Letters Over the Sea by Gytha and Prembone was recommended, but I haven't been able to find a copy online. Links would be welcome if anyone has one!
