It's the meme which I have seen everywhere, but [livejournal.com profile] manipulant is the one who finally broke me. Most of these are more notes than fic.

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

Feel free to ask about anything and I'll tell you the premise or paste you a tidbit for any of these.

1. emelan verse
2. street urchin magic brendon and nobleman magician spencer!
3. panic zoneverse
4. variation on spencer's lost parents story
5. urban fantasy bss
6. bunny
7. vampires

And somewhere there's the Spencer's lost parents story, but I think it's mostly in notebooks.

It's leaked! This is not the original leak from Strikegently and the Panic LJ, because that copy contains a slur inserted by some random. I shaved it out of this copy, so it's missing a few seconds of Brendon holding a note around 2:55. If you want the original leak I can send it to you.

Verdict: I love this, and can't wait for the album. It's extremely dancy, which was predictable from the clip, and more power pop (although I hate that term) than rock and will be stuck in my head for days, I'm sure. The strings and bells in the intro and verses are a nice counterpoint to the driving chorus and sinister nature of the song. I think that Brendon's voice is well-suited to that aspect of it, too. (A good example of this is on "assess the sins she's paid for," and again on the last line of the song.) And is that anguished moaning I hear in the background at the end? The song's so layered it's hard to hear some of the individual pieces.

I take it back about the strings--I think they're very tip-toey. Ominous tip-toeing. The bells are still counterpoint, they sound like a music box to me, so lost innocence? There's this quiet urgency to the verses, with a quick and steady bass drum, which drops away after the build to the chorus.

The lyrics aren't gonna win a Nobel Prize or anything, but I think they're comparable to Fever-era Ryan Ross. I am a little worried that they're emulating Ross here, consciously or not, because of the whole heavy drinking, life of sin, selling sex thing. Here they are, for reference: )

This is like ominous cabaret stuff, but still completely different to Fever (for me) and the bottom line is that I love it and I'm thrilled that they've come out with something this nuanced and complex after TYV released Take a Vacation! and Jon Walker did his solo songs, because, much as I love those guys, they said some pretty shitty, mean things about Spencer & Brendon's songwriting abilities and this single, and hopefully the album, is proving them so very wrong.

Here're some rips of Patrick singing at his old high school. Check out icecreamhdaches for some awesome video, or just search YouTube with 'Patrick Stump GBS.'

I merged two clips to get a full version of Stand By Me, and, well, you can definitely tell. The audio on Cupid's Chokehold is pretty bad, too.

Ryan Ross was on Mark Ronson's East Village Radio show tonight with Alex Greenwald, and there was a short pseudo-interview and they played Change and another new song called The Other Girl. I think I'm really going to love this album <3<3<3

[livejournal.com profile] 14valentines is a project started by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock several years ago to bring attention to women's issues through fandom and Livejournal. I've always really liked the project. I thought I'd be able to participate more this year, but severely underestimated how much time moving to another country would take up.

Today's theme is Arts and Entertainment. There's plenty of meta out there about the portrayal of women in bandom, and even fandom in general, and I think others have been more articulate than I can be right now. But I will say that the sheer hatred I've seen addressed toward the wives and girlfriends of band members, and the way women in and surrounding the bands are ignored or turned into stereotypes, is sickening. It's not unique to bandom, but "she's not good enough for him" &c is that much more shocking to me when it's real people.

Anyway! I think that women are, have been, and will continue to be awesome musicians and artists, and today is a great day to celebrate that.

Here is a picture! It's on 22 by 30" Stonehenge paper, done in Prismacolor pencils and blended with their marker blender. It's part of an unfinished diptych dealing with fannishness/obsession in music, and how being at a concert can sometimes be like being part of a cult. It's heavily inspired by a Cobra Starship show I went to in November and references pictures I took there. There's some discoloration due to glare, especially in the lower right corner.

Here's the deal: I hate the so-called official lyrics on FOE. They're clearly inaccurate in places, and, as someone who pays attention to lyrics, it really bothers me that they're being presented as the Gods-honest truth.

When my roommate, who is not a Fall Out Boy fan, or even really a fan of newer mainstream bands at all, told me that she had bought FAD after hearing it and liking it before the semester ended, I wanted her to have a lyrics booklet which I approved. Egotistical, I know. I made her a (pretty sweet, if I say so myself) version that combined the FOE lyrics, where I thought they were accurate, with my own interpretation, both when they were obviously wrong (e.g., the ____ in w.a.m.s) and when I thought my version was more correct.

Now, I can't promise these are 100% perfect. But they're sure as hell better than the FOE version, even if that's the one that enjoys official status.

Fair warning: my choices of where to break lines and of punctuation at the ends of lines are largely arbitrary and follow no set rules.

[livejournal.com profile] tipsofpencils and [livejournal.com profile] suiteheart helped when I was originally figuring out the lyrics to Headfirst Slide, and [livejournal.com profile] alternatending helped with Pavlove.

EDIT: changed all the "son"s in West Coast Smoker to "sun" based off of this twitter exchange:
@ztnewetep question: what does the line "knock once for the father, twice for the son, three times for the holy ghost" means? (link)
@DiyanaRazinah its "the sun". i dunno sometimes when you overmedicate you find some closeness to something bigger than you...(link)
@DiyanaRazinah ..but the truth is the closeness is false. its faux pa(u)s(e)e. its time to hit the reset button and start the gameover.edit (link)

Fall Out Boy released another song from Folie a Deux. As usual, Patrick is sometimes indecipherable.

My lyric guesses are behind the cut.

Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet )

This is the longest song title from the album, but damn is it long.

Please don't submit all or part of my work to any lyrics sites, or distribute it in general without credit (in this case, a link back to my journal). Thanks!

It's that time again! I transcribed Pete and Patrick's conversation from the new podcast. The podcast is great, and it has snippets of songs, so check it out if you can.

Yeah, this is kind of like a fantasy coming together, we’re doing this podcast in the nude. )

Hey, here's my super-late concert report! I went to the 8/19 Dance Across the Country show at the Greene Street Club in Greensboro, NC. The Hush Sound headlined, preceded by The Cab, Steel Train, and The Morning Light. warning, under-the-cut is very media heavy )

Someone ([livejournal.com profile] naotalba) posted a link to what's probably the acoustic one-take of growing up on cfobmania. I don't have confirmation from them that it's for-sure the version distributed by freshonlybakery, but it's acoustic and it's growing up, so. They said Pete directed them to it (at the video shoot?).

here ya'll are. I was able to right click and save.

[livejournal.com profile] icecreamhdaches has the akon cover uploaded, as well.

Hey! I've transcribed the article from the new issue of Rock Sound. Scans can be found at [livejournal.com profile] icecreamhdaches. I've left their grammar and spelling unchanged.

At the moment I get furious about doing anything other than working here )
