I have been working on making a second Hobbit reclist since last May /o\ This is not the One True Reclist because I gave up on that; instead, it's me shoving a bunch of stories in everyone's face with minimal commentary and organization. Sorry, y'all, it was the only way I was ever going to post this, and I really wanted to post this.

Before we start, here is part 1 and here is me flailing over my favorite story in the fandom right now from last year, but also possibly ever, at Best Thing Ever. I cannot recommend To Find Our Long Forgotten Gold by Wealhtheow21 enough, y'all. They're currently working on a sequel set in the Shire and there are even! more! feelings!!!! There are several sequels now, though only one is complete. The series is available here.

(I tried not to rec it again and I couldn't stop myself or bring myself to edit it out. I am probably overhyping it now but I do not even care.)

I had a specific request (hi [profile] maralenenok!) for Everybody Lives/Nobody Dies aka BotFA Fix-It fic, so this rec list will mostly be that. (Also it is my favorite type of Hobbit fic.) (Also I should warn you now that I mostly read Bilbo/Thorin AND the fandom mostly writes Bilbo/Thorin, so that is mostly what I will be recommending.)

1. I didn't post at all last month, but it was a pretty good month. I went to a couple shows, saw my parents a few times, and made great progress in hanging out with a new group of people, hereafter known as trivia!friends. I also saw some of my friends from the town where I attended college a few times. They're only 30 minutes away, but our schedules never seem to line up. We've all vowed to work on that.

Other events of note: snow (so much snow /o\), Book of Mormon, my birthday.

2. March started AMAZINGLY with a trip up north for [personal profile] cinco and [personal profile] siegeofangels' housewarming party. ♥♥♥ And then [profile] maralenenok made delicious blini for Maslenitsa, and I had caviar for the first time.

3. I did a lot of Wikipedia research on Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday, and Lent in general on Tuesday for trivia purposes and decided to try giving something up for Lent. I settled on fancy coffee & chocolate drinks (to save money) and complaining (to make me happier). I resisted the urge to get a fancy coffee last night; we'll see if my willpower holds.

4. Last night was the live Welcome to Night Vale taping. No Children was playing on the PA when we came in, some nice foreshadowing for JOHN DARNIELLE walking onto stage not even halfway through the show. Judging by the reactions of the rest of the audience, there was one other person who cared about both WTNV and the Mountain Goats in the room. (I would generally excuse this as not knowing what J.D. looks like, but if you're a Mountain Goats fan, live in NC, and are a person who attends live performances, you have almost certainly seen him before.)

He was on stage for maybe 3 or 4 minutes, introduced as a bluegrass musician, implied to have done illegal things in the past, and played a metal "bluegrass lesson." I caught part of it on tape and you can listen here.

5. I already recommended this on Twitter, but I am starry-eyed in love with the story and must rec it EVERYWHERE.

To Find Our Long Forgotten Gold (222953 words) by Wealhtheow21
Chapters: 38/?
Fandom: The Hobbit - All Media Types, The Hobbit (Jackson movies), The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Summary: AU of movieverse. It is many years since tragedy struck the line of Durin when the youngest heir was lost to a pack of orcs. Now Bilbo Baggins, having agreed only to stealing treasure from a dragon, finds himself instead tangled up in a web of tragedy and revenge. Perhaps it's foolhardy of him to get involved at all, but really, someone has to try and keep these dwarves out of trouble. As for the rest, well, what is lost does not always stay lost forever.

It is still a WIP, but the author is posting daily updates and expects to finish in just a few more chapters. The author's tags, which I've removed here, contain content notes; please know that this story focuses on the aftermath of slavery.

Still consuming ALL the Hobbit fic.

I've been working on a recs post and have found that my favorite stories are centered around families, found and otherwise. Here is a post full of those stories. Most of them are Bilbo/Thorin and, if they follow the quest, most are also some form of fix-it for the Battle of the Five Armies. If you'd like to know whether a story contains a certain canonical character death, feel free to ask!

Little Steps (4362 words) by Etharei
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: Unfortunately, his room has no window. He's considering hiding Kíli in his old toy chestbox when the door to his room swings open. He squeezes himself into the far corner of the room. In his arms, Kíli is shaking like a leaf, strong tiny fingers digging hard into Fíli's skin. All Fíli can see at first is a large, hulking figure, almost too tall to be a Dwarf.

I adore this story. ♥Siblings protecting each other♥

Of an Arcane Binding (44888 words) by Salvia_G
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield
Summary: An inexplicable magic ties Bilbo Baggins, hobbit of the Shire, to Thorin, dwarven prince of Erebor.

This is inspired by (two fanworks fusions with) the Time Traveler's Wife. After Bilbo appears a few times he's basically adopted into Thorin's family. I liked both the changes the author made to canon & the things they kept the same.

as sunshine falls on the wretched (18489 words) by KivrinEngle
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: Bilbo Baggins, the newly appointed Master of Bag End, has just reached his majority. He lives alone in his fine house, managing his estate, and ignoring the people of Hobbiton as much as they avoid him. When a storm lands him with an unexpected (and unwelcome) little visitor, all Bilbo wants to do is find the baby Dwarf's missing family so he can get back to his own life.

That's not what happens.

Bilbo's a bit of a Scrooge after his parents die; Kíli helps him open up & become part of the community again.

I Heard That Clan's All Trouble (39238 words) by Tawabids
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield
Summary: The curse of Thror took everything from Thorin; his home, his people's love, and finally his family and his sword arm. Then an old wizard in a pub brings him a key and the first good news he has heard in a long time - his nephews are alive and well in the Shire, the most unlikeliest of places.

Bilba Baggins had been quite happy living quietly on her own, but Bag End has not been quiet ever since two orphaned dwarves snuck into her life and made themselves at home. However, she will be damned if she lets a one-armed dwarf prince storm in and take them away after all these years.

She'll follow her boys to the ends of Middle Earth if she has to. And maybe, if he proves himself, she might even stand beside their king.

fem!Bilbo, which I love, fighting for her family, which I also love. Thorin is terrible at the beginning of the story, so, y'know, true to canon! This story is the one to blame for pulling me into the fandom; I had read one-off Hobbit epics before without any problems at all. Found family feels are dangerous.

all that shine as moonstone leave a discernible mark (2906 words) by kay_cricketed
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield
Summary: After the Battle of Five Armies, Thorin Oakenshield is determined to secure Bilbo's place in the world, even if he must make him a husband and a widower in the same hour to do so.

This is tragic. Read it when you need to feel sad, or already feel sad and want to cry. It's not exactly difficult to make me cry with writing (easier than with any other media, in fact) but I thought this story was beautifully done.

A Glittering Abyss (18501 words) by Salvia_G
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield
Summary: After the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin has forgiven Bilbo; but Bilbo finds he cannot forgive Thorin.

Bilbo works hard to overcome the way Thorin treated him over the Arkenstone. Contains PTSD and a few of what I would read as panic attacks.

The Days of Dust (50078 words) by manic_intent
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Bofur
Summary: "'ullo again, Mister Baggins," the toymaker drawls, without turning around, and Bilbo laughs as he straightens up and steps into the candlelight.

It's still early enough into the evening that Bofur surely does not truly need to light the tapers as yet, but he's engaged in something delicate, it seems, his thick fingers busy on a knob of wood and his paring knife - he doesn't even look up when Bilbo circles the table to have a look.

"Someday you'll have to tell me how it is that you always know that I'm there."

I deeply enjoyed this AU and would read another 50K if the author cared to write it. The Shire was invaded by Orcs before Bilbo was born, and the surviving Hobbits moved the Ered Luin. Bilbo is a member of the Burglar's Guild, which Belladonna co-founded with Nori.

Hveðrungr's Children (14432 words) by manic_intent
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Fíli/Kíli/Thorin Oakenshield, Fíli/Kíli
Summary: After the disastrous battle in Moria, Thorin has a bitter fight with his sister and sends her away to the Iron Hills. Years after her passing, he visits the mines of the Iron Hills, and realizes that there is far more for him there than just the memory of her ghost.

Fíli and Kíli live feral in the deep stone. This was slightly creepy and perfect.

Ghivashel (44244 words) by mdseiran
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield, Thorin Oakenshield & Smaug
Summary: The last thing Bilbo expects when he stays up late one night is company. The strange dwarf and his companion crash into his life and prove unexpected saviours. But the dwarf seems to think he will be joining them on their travels, and Bilbo has no such intentions.

Smaug's treasure and Thorin's gold lust take very different forms in this AU.

The Road Delivered Us Home (117430 words) by keelywolfe
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield
Summary: In the years since Bilbo left Erebor, he has lost his respectability, gained a nephew, and gotten on with life at Bag End.

He'd left aside adventure for the comforts and peace of his little Hobbit hole, and for the love of a child who needed him. Though perhaps, adventures can yet find him.

I am out of words, so I will just say: faaaaaaaamily
