Dear Yuletide Author
Oct. 8th, 2013 04:54 pmHello, dear Yulewriter!
Thank you for offering one of these fandoms! I can’t wait to read the story you come up with. If you already have an idea for one of these fandoms, go for it! However, if you'd like a prompt then I hope this post helps.
General likes:
I read across all ratings, genres, and pairing permutations (or lack thereof! gen is love as well). I have a gigantic pan-fandom love of urban fantasy and fairy tales; I don’t think there’s a fandom where I wouldn’t love a magic AU. But please don’t feel you need to write one! Canon fic, real-world AUs, slice-of-life: I love it all. I have a particular weakness for stories that hurt. I unabashedly love worms!fic ("go into the garden and eat worms"), where the POV character feels isolated and alone and unappreciated but eventually realizes that they're loved. I am a big fan of Belligerent Sexual Tension (warning! link goes to TV Tropes). I generally prefer happy or ambiguous endings to unhappy ones.
General dislikes:
I don't really care for gore in horror but suspense is A-OK. I would strongly prefer your story not contain rape/non-consent, major character death, infidelity, watersports, scat, or bloodplay. I also have a mild-to-moderate embarrassment squick, which can be best described by the motts.
Here's a bit more about my requests, in no particular order.
DANGER Daniel - Works
Any!
I would love any story you came up with based on one or more of these pieces. Is this our world, some time in the future, or one a few worlds away? Who are the people? The wolves? What’s with the graffiti? Anything you see in one of the pieces and would like to explore, I would love to read about.
I discovered Daniel Danger’s work, in a rather roundabout way, through bandom. I love the deliberate narrative quality to all of his pieces and his linework. I don’t really have anything to add to my original prompt; go wild!
Hark! A Vagrant
Vanessa, Dark-haired Mystery Solving Teen, Light-haired Mystery Solving Teen
What would happen if these three stumbled upon a real case? I suspect the boys would deal with it somewhat incompetently while Vanessa would thrive. Alternatively, you could expand upon their daily lives. You don't need to include all three characters if you'd prefer not to.
Teens! They're so terrible. All of their comics can be found on the Hark! A Vagrant archive-by-category page under "teens."
I like how they're mean to each other in a very teenage boy way. And I would read a million stories about Vanessa the girl reporter, so. If you'd like to write a pairing fic I'm down with Teen/Teen, Teen-Who-Likes-Vanessa/Vanessa, and Teen/Teen/Vanessa.
Lament - Mount Moriah (Song)
Narrator, You
Sometimes I just want to read stories about broken relationships. (If the relationship is fixed through lots of tears and hard work and communication, that's cool. If it's never fixed and you're left with that ache in your heart, that's cool too.)
I love this song so, so much. My favorite lines are “A mouthful of bees / couldn't stop me / from whispering, / ‘I don't know you.’ / But if scars could sing / about the permanent things, / they’d say ‘it’s damaged, / but it was something.’” What was this relationship like when they were happy (if they ever were)? How did it start? What was the beginning of the end? Anything you’d like to write based on this song would be lovely.
Here is the (narratively unrelated but fun!) video:
Sunshine – Robin McKinley
Rae "Sunshine" Seddon
Anything about Sunshine's magic & how she learns to use it or how it affects her life post-story would be cool. New recipes she comes up with, if she uses her magic while baking, further encounters with the SOF, Mel and Con and that tangle--whatever you'd most like to write, I'm sure I'll love reading!
Sunshine is about vampires and baking and I wish for a sequel every time I read it, so anything you choose to write will be very welcome! I have no preference with regard to Sunshine/Mel or Sunshine/Con or Sunshine/Mel/Con or entirely gen fic. Something with Aimil and Sunshine’s friendship would be great, too.
Thank you again for your story! As always, optional details are optional. I truly love all of these canons and the characters I nominated and can’t wait to see what you come up with, whether or not it’s based on one of my prompts.
