Dear Yuletide letter
Oct. 31st, 2012 09:10 pmThank you for offering one of these fandoms! I'm super excited to read your story. If you already have a great idea for one of these fandoms, go for it! If you'd like a prompt I hope this post helps.
I read pretty widely across fandoms, tropes, and ratings. My Pinboard is here. I have a gigantic pan-fandom kink for urban fantasy, fairy tales, and Monster of the Week casefic.
So Runs the World Away (Album)
I love every song on this album and would likewise love any story related to it. Because that's a horrible sort of non-prompt, though, here are some songs I'm partial to and the bits of their stories that intrigued me most.
The Curse - Any insight into either of the character's thought processes and motivations
Southern Pacifica - What is the narrator running from? Does he succeed?
Folk Bloodbath - Any backstory at all, or you could tell the story in your own words, or influenced by either the actual history or the Trickster status that Stackalee took on.
The Remnant - The narrator is something seriously scary, and I want to know what. Bonus for an expanded story of the chase.
Another New World - I would love Annabel to be an actual living ship, or the narrator's love transformed, or a Pygmalion type figure. Magical ships FTW! I would also love to read the story of the narrator in the aftermath.
If you're not familiar with Josh Ritter or this album, I highly suggest checking it out! It can be found in its entirety on Spotify or here.
Hark! A Vagrant - Mystery Solving Teens
Oh man, the teens! All of their comics can be found on the Hark! A Vagrant archive-by-category page under "teens." There are six comics devoted to them. I like how they're mean to each other in a very teenage boy way. I'd love to see them stumble upon an actual case and deal with it somewhat incompetently. I'd love to see them hang out being teenagers just as much, though--what are their lives like outside of school? I totally consider Vanessa a Mystery Solving Teen, so if you wanted to write her story that would be awesome, too. If you'd like to write a pairing fic I'm down with Teen/Teen, Teen-Who-Likes-Vanessa/Vanessa, and Teen/Teen/Vanessa.
Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms - Wolf, Trickster, Princess, The Crone
I would love to see the Princess team up with the Trickster, or be the Trickster. In fact, I think any of the other three archetypes could function as the Trickster and would be interested in reading those stories. Feel free to overlap the characters in other ways, too, I'd just like all of these four archetypes to appear in any story you write. I'm attracted to the ambiguous morality of the Trickster figure above everything else.
