Non-Coachella recs

Ugh it was hard to get this down to a manageable number /o\ I'm going to focus on lesser-known or more recent artists, but fandom is super varied so ymmv.

Adia Victoria
Southern Gothic/Blues-Rock. I first heard Adia Victoria music last September at our local music festival and was blown away.

Funk. Boulevards has a ton of sexual lyrics (the station was legally able to play 2 out of 4 songs on his debut EP), but imo they're celebratory instead of objectifying. Perfect for dancing at any time.

Downtown Boys
Punk. SO GOOD. Run don't walk to listen to Monstro. Also I know some of y'all love Springsteen, so check out their Dancing in the Dark cover.

Kamasi Washington
Jazz. His 4-disc The Epic is aptly named and also GREAT. I played the first track, Change of the Guard, in an Afrofuturist set, with Janelle Monae's BaBopByeYa following. Lots of hip hop and funk influences.

See Gulls
Garage-Pop. I am obsessed with their first EP, You Can't See Me. Video's from a live show, for better audio check out their Bandcamp page.

Brian Harnetty
American Primitive and archival recordings? This is specifically a rec for his album Rawhead & Bloodybones, which combines mid-20th century folk recordings with his own music. Not on YouTube, stream it on Dust-to-Digital's site here.

Sylvan Esso
Pop. I saw their second-ever show (opening for Dessa!) and have loved them since. I'm currently trying to decide which lyric from Could I Be (about touring) I can use for a hypothetical All for the Game fic.

Museum Mouth
Pop-Punk. Lots of stuff about crushes & growing up queer in the small-town South.

Stopping here for now, but if anyone has genre requests for recs I'll do my best.
