AVENGERS *flail*

On Tuesday my store received passes to an advanced screening of Avengers tonight. Y'all. Y'ALL. I have too many feelings about this movie and Marvel movie!verse in general.
First! JOSS! *shakes fist*
When people say something has been Jossed it is not actually a compliment, you know. It is not something to aspire to, it's not a challenge. There is NO NEED to kill the internet's favorite character roughly halfway through the movie. >:(
(but ngl, most of the folks I saw it with agree that Fury probably faked the death as a ~team building exercise~. That or he has an army of Phil clones just hangin' out, waiting to be activated.)
My one good eye, UGH.
Things I absolutely loved (all of the characters and most of the dialogue and also the fight scenes):
Natasha! Holy shit, Natasha. They kept putting her in situations where a typical female hero would be vulnerable and then either rescued by the hero or not rescued and hurt in some way, but Natasha! She was completely in control of almost every situation she was shown in, and she was always, always the most competent person in the room IMO. Also, BFF with Clint ftw.
Steve! Thinking the stars and stripes were corny, "there's only one god and I don't think he dresses like that," how well he worked with Tony even when they sort of hated each other.
Bruce! I really need to see the second version of the Hulk movie, because Mark Ruffalo killed it as Hulk. His trick to staying calm is that he doesn't--he's always angry. But he's shown working as a doctor, and I read that along with the line to mean that he's constantly angry at the injustice he sees in the world and he works SO HARD to alleviate it, which is why he's joining the Avengers. All he has to contribute is a giant green rage monster who destroys things when his first concern is preservation and his first question is always "did I hurt anyone?" but that doesn't matter because they're collectively trying to make the world a better place.
Tony! Oh Tony. ♥ Your bonding moment with Bruce was A++. RDJ is always great as Stark and this movie was no different. Pepper's bond with Phil (obviously formed while they bitched about Tony over coffee post-Stane) and his reaction to it. How he dealt with Loki. "Power is at 400%." He didn't cut the wire, he just laid down on it!
Clint! Clint was so clearly damaged I just want to hug him. His tactical advice was great, both in the beginning and during the epic fight scene at the end. "You and I remember Budapest very differently." The fact that a head injury and not true love overcame Loki's magic. His trick arrows!
Thor! "He's adopted," that was such a Whedon line. The Empire State building, his Loki feelings, "he's not slowing down." The way he's grown up enough that he works hard to defend Loki and claim him as family but won't jeopardize Asgard's peace with Earth to protect him. Relatedly, his comments to Loki about what it takes to be king.
Loki! Tom Hiddleston is amazing. Fuck, his smile alone is perfect. The major problems with his character motivation in Thor aren't really solved, they're just glossed over. You need to accept that Loki is evil for reasons. (When Erik says he must have known what he was doing because he included a failsafe...I think that you need to interpret that as Loki including a failsafe, because he was completely in control. They may not go in that direction--probably won't, in fact--but I think it's very much worth considering.)
The A on the building at the end!
Thanos just chilling waiting to fuck up ALL THE THINGS.
Argh, this movie. I will be seeing it far too many times, I can already tell.
Things missing:
No Jane or Darcy, and very little team building. No movie night :(
Sad lack of Jeremy Renner's ass.
No makeouts :(
They're obviously laying very early groundwork for Civil War, and I'm very interested to see how long it takes them to get there and what they do with it once they do.
