VidUKon 2021: A different framing (vidshow)
I VJ'd my first themed show at VUK today; here's the playlist and some notes.
I was inspired to do this show by newkidfan's vid Meaning, which I've been fascinated with since 2013. When I first saw it I was so struck by the technique and how newkidfan used it to great effect to compare and contrast Derek and Stiles' POVs, and every re-watch has been more and more rewarding.
I had a short list of vids I wanted to share with it and got some excellent suggestions on Twitter and from friends (thank you to
imbirint,
thuviaptarth, and
charloween; apologies to anyone I've missed!). Then building out from there crystallized 5 different riffs on framing that I wanted to address, which narrowed my further searches nicely.
I do wish I'd had/made space for more lightheartedness in the show; there were some great examples, but after some struggle I decided I needed to skip some of them so there wasn't too much tonal back-and-forth in the show. Structuring it by aspects of framing meant that I didn't have as much leeway when handling emotional differences.
Overall I'm super pleased with it, though! Thank you again to everyone who suggested vids, to
alpheratz_is and
charloween for looking over my playlist and offering excellent suggestions, and to all the vidders who allowed me to feature their work.
